Welcome from Dr David Hughes, Medical Director
Many thanks for your interest in this important role.
Sheffield Teaching Hospitals (STH) is one of the United Kingdoms’ largest hospital trusts, providing a comprehensive range of standard hospital care to the people of Sheffield, specialist care to the people of South Yorkshire, North Nottinghamshire and North Derbyshire plus some highly specialised services at a national level. The Trust is involved in cutting edge research and innovation but is also very much rooted in its patient-centred values.
Our new Informatics Director will join the Trust at an important time in our technological journey. We are embarking upon a programme of development of our electronic patient record and we shall have a central role to play in cross-system and regional developments in collaboration with partner organisations. There will also be opportunities to link with colleagues across the Shelford Group – an alliance of ten of the largest hospital trusts in England – in strategic planning and sharing of information. There is a considerable appetite amongst the staff of the Trust to develop and improve our information technology and we wish to be well-placed to take advantage of future advances in informatics and related technology.
The Informatics Director will be a member of a technology leadership team led by the Medical Director who holds Trust Board-level responsibility for informatics. This team will also include our Chief Clinical Information Officer and our Technology and Innovation Director. The Informatics Director will also lead the large and well-established Informatics Department.
The Trust has a strong culture of safety and the Informatics Director will have a key role to play in maintaining cybersecurity and overseeing information governance. We shall also wish to continue to develop our technology to promote patient safety.
The broader leadership team at STH are inclusive and passionate about what they do and the Informatics Director will have the opportunity to work closely with the directorate management teams across the organisation in how they plan and deliver technology developments to support their activities. STH has a strong track record of good financial and operational performance backing up its excellent clinical services. But, most of all, we believe STH is a great place to work and the Informatics Director post represents a great opportunity for the right person to join the team.
I hope you will find our post of Informatics Director to be of interest and we look forward to receiving your application.
Dr David Hughes, Medical Director
