Significant progress has been made in delivering electronic patient records; mobile technologies to enable collaborative working; standardised hardware and software platforms; enhanced use of data and intelligence to transform the delivery of integrated healthcare and making sure our underlying IT infrastructure is fit for purpose in supporting a progressive Teaching Trust. Our new Informatics Director will play a key role in supporting delivery of the next exciting phase of our development, in harnessing existing and new technology to drive the transformation of patient centred care.

The Role

Working collegiately with the Directors of Technology and Innovation and the CCIO, the Informatics Director will drive the delivery strategy, ensuring a robust, interoperable IT and applications infrastructure is in place to support the delivery of mission critical services and the transformation of clinical processes. The successful candidate will manage the key relationships with the Trust’s strategic IT suppliers and will engage with stakeholders from across the Trust and regional health community, to ensure clinical, business and patient needs are clearly understood and reflected in exemplary IT service delivery. To achieve this outcome, you will lead, inspire and build the capability of a team of circa 300 informatics professionals and manage budgets in excess of £50m per annum.

The Person

With significant experience of large-scale IT delivery in the NHS, public sector, and/or for a supplier to the sector, you will be a strong technologist and passionate advocate for informatics, someone who can create a clear vision for improved corporate decision-making and empowered front-line staff.  You will be comfortable making business cases to board level sponsors, for investing in effective technology and have demonstrable experience of leading high value commercial negotiations with IT supplier partners.  To succeed you must be an inclusive leader and persuasive communicator, able to navigate ambiguity and be adept at translating complex issues into a clear strategy to influence at all levels across organisational boundaries.  You will also need an excellent grasp of Information Governance and Knowledge Management, and a track record of successful programme management.
